Oral Surgery

IN EVERETT, WA

Extractions and surgical care, handled gently and explained clearly.

What we handle

Oral surgery covers procedures where treatment is surgical rather than restorative — most commonly extractions, including wisdom teeth, and preparation of a site for an implant.

Removing a tooth is a last resort, and we would rather talk you out of it where there is a genuine alternative. A tooth that can be saved with a root treatment and a crown is almost always better kept — nothing we make replaces a natural root as well as the one you already have.

When extraction genuinely is the right answer, we plan what comes next at the same appointment rather than afterwards. Leaving a gap has consequences: neighbouring teeth tilt into it, the opposing tooth over-erupts, and the bone recedes. Knowing whether an implant, a bridge or nothing at all is the plan changes how the extraction itself is done.

What we handle in-house

  • Extractions, including teeth broken at the gum line and wisdom teeth.
  • Surgical removal of teeth that cannot be taken out simply.
  • Socket preservation at the time of extraction, keeping implant options open.
  • Minor soft-tissue procedures and biopsies of anything that needs identifying.

What to expect

Most procedures are done under local anesthetic in a single visit.

  1. 1 Assessment Imaging shows root shape and the position of nerves and sinuses, so there are no surprises during the procedure.
  2. 2 The procedure Local anesthetic, and sedation options if you would find that easier. We work at a pace you are comfortable with.
  3. 3 Aftercare Clear written instructions, and a number to call. We follow up to check healing is on track.

Healing well

For the first 24 hours avoid rinsing vigorously, spitting, and drinking through a straw — all can dislodge the clot and cause a painful dry socket. Do not smoke. Stick to soft foods, keep the rest of your mouth clean, and call us if pain increases after day three rather than easing.

Common questions about oral surgery

Does having a tooth out hurt?
The extraction is done under local anesthetic, so you feel pressure rather than pain. Afterwards, expect soreness for a few days that responds to ordinary pain relief. Tell us if you are anxious — sedation options are available.
How long does recovery take?
Most of the discomfort settles within three to four days, and soft tissue closes over in a week or two. Surgical extractions and wisdom teeth take somewhat longer. Bone remodels underneath for several months, which is why implant timing is planned around it.
What is a dry socket and how do I avoid it?
It is when the blood clot protecting the socket is dislodged, exposing bone — distinctly painful, usually three to four days afterwards. Avoid rinsing vigorously, spitting, smoking and drinking through a straw for the first 24 hours. If it happens, call us; it is easily treated.
Do wisdom teeth always need removing?
No. Wisdom teeth that have come through cleanly, meet an opposing tooth and can be kept clean are best left alone. We recommend removal when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front.
Should I replace the tooth afterwards?
Usually, yes — for a tooth that shows or that does real chewing work. We will discuss implants, a bridge, or a partial denture before the extraction, because socket preservation at the time keeps the best options open.
